about

Backlash was recorded in response to the right wing domestic terrorism and the white supremacy movements that have been threatening the United States and the entire planet for centuries.

It began when I was riding my bike home from my day job and my boss was haggling me once again about wages. I know so many of us in the world are sick and tired of being pushed around and I found myself singing these lyrics at the top of my lungs in the middle of the street- “If you don’t wanna pay me, don’t hit me with your backlash.”

I went home and immediately wrote the riff on the piano and sent it to my producer Raphael Mann who played all the other instruments on it and also mixed and mastered it.

Now that Trump is gone, we all hope we can progress forward without a backlash from the climate changing denying and deluded lunatics

lyrics

Backlash

Now I know you like to put me away
And I know you, you want me to pay
I know you wanna take us down
So don’t act like no clone.
I know you don’t want me around
So why don’t you tell me to just to go home.

If you don’t pay me, don’t hit me with the backlash.
If you don’t wanna see me, don’t hit me with the backlash.
If you don’t wanna pay me, don’t hit me with the backlash.
If you don’t wanna be me, don’t hit me with the backlash.

I’m just a black man trying to stay out of prison. If you don’t wanna pay me that’s your decision.

If you don’t wanna be me, don’t hit me with the backlash.
If you don’t wanna see me, don’t hit me with the backlash.
If you don’t wanna pay me, don’t hit me with the backlash.
If you don’t wanna be me, don’t hit me with the backlash.

You know that we’ve been working here for you without no pay. For more than four hundred years. Ain’t nuthin that we could say. We used to think you was a punk. Now you wanna hang out with Trump. We used to think you was funky. Now you wanna be his flunky.

If you don’t pay me, don’t hit me with your backlash.
If you don’t see me, don’t hit me with your backlash.
If you don’t pay me, don’t hit me with your backlash.
If you don’t see me, don’t hit me with your backlash.
